- Description
Guéthary – a charming, romantic village on the French Basque coast, famous for being a quiet yet luxurious getaway destination for the Parisian elite.
A place infused with salty and floral aromas, historically Guéthary is associated with whaling, and as such, this fragrance is an ode to the note of ambergris. A precious commodity that washed up on Atlantic coastlines, ambergris (or whale bile) exudes a fragrance that is powerful yet elegant, with musky and woody tones.
This compellingly creamy scent is infused with the seductive character of marigold and dusted with pear blossom for sweetness, then is lent earthiness and strength from suede and black ink. Eliciting a sense of peace and tranquility, not dissimilar to the sea, Guéthary reveals a unique personality that plays upon the contrast between freshness and intensity.
NOTES
Top: Pear Flower, Salt, Tagete Flower
Middle: Black Ink, Jasmine Sambac, Suede Note
Base: Black Sugar, White Musk
HOW IT WEARS
Opening with the subtle sweetness of pear blossom, the earthiness of the black ink, suede and salt soon reveal themselves in this scent. The dry down is a salty, musky slightly sweet composition that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of ambergris. Extrait strength, this scent should last 8-10 hours on the skin.
LORE LOVES
Guéthary is the ultimate every day your-skin-but-better scent. While it hugs the skin softly, its lasting power is incredible. It has an undeniable elegance about it that is incredibly compelling. Like a wintery ocean breeze that has caught the scent of local white florals, it is cool, salty, and clean.
ABOUT THE BRAND
The perfume with history – Eight and Bob was created by Albert Fouquet, the son of a French aristocrat. In a room on the upper floor of the family château, Fouquet created and perfected various essences for his own personal use aided by Philippe, the trusted family butler. At social events his fragrance was in high demand, however Fouquet continually rejected proposals to market his fragrance. His fragrances were for his own delight, his own creative fulfillment and very personal as they told the stories of his favourite people and places. This all changed however, one night in 1937 when Fouquet met a young John F Kennedy who fell in love with his fragrance and the rest, as they say, is history…
