Entrance is a collaborative project between Reykjavík-based visual artist turned perfumer Andrea Maack and luxury fashion boutique Entrance in Bucharest. Simply titled ANDREA MAACK X ENTRANCE, this unisex fragrance has a magnetic noir resonance and a timeless appeal. A top note of bergamot provides an immediate slightly bitter, smoky sensuality against a heart of spicy yet creamy, saffron, nutmeg and sparkling fresh pink berries. All is swathed in a magical veil of vetiver, while a base of vanilla and patchouli anchor the amber notes, a contrast between sweet and spicy, mouth-watering and mysterious.

HOW IT WEARS
Entrance opens with a soft sparkle – a gentle, fresh and bright opening with a soft earthy undertone. At first it has a clean, skin-like feel, but as it develops the earthy tones become more prominent, and it ends up warmer, earthier and more grounded. The vanilla note is the stand out, but it is balanced beautifully with the freshness of bergamot, creating a citrusy, earthy vanilla/patchouli fragrance that lasts for around 8 hours with a gentle sillage on the skin.

When the artist first embarked upon her scent journey she posed the question, how do you turn a drawing into a fragrance? It is a mysterious process, by all accounts. Do fragrances have colours? Andrea Maack says they do. Can a fragrance designed to complement a specific artwork stand on its own as a composition? Even without seeing the artwork, these are complex, well-made scents that tell a story.
The striking black bottle and box were designed in collaboration with architect Maddalena Casadei, inspired by the obsidian volcanic rocks found in the Icelandic highlands, with graphic design by art director Tommaso Garner, who interpreted Maack’s original paintings.
